I'm so sorry for your loss.
GONE FROM MY SIGHT
by Henry Van Dyke
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an
object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until, at
length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky
come down to mingle each other.
Then someone at my side says, "There! She is gone!"
Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as large in
mast and hull and spar and just as strong in beam as she was when she
left my side. She is just as able to bear her load of living freight to
the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her; and
just at the moment when someone at my side says, "She is gone!" , there
are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the
glad shout, "There she comes !".
And that is dying.

Dear Treadway family,  Harold Martin was one of my piano students in the early 80's and also in the Methodist Church Choir while I was the director.  He was such a loving and warm man who brightened up any gathering.  I will never forget how Harold Martin would sing loudly and with abandon in the choir from that back row and he was so funny when we were using a benediction called "Dona Nobis Pacem"  for services, he would sing "Don't I know these possums!" instead and would have all of us laughing and remembering to not take ourselves too seriously.  I loved knowing him during that time and I have been thinking of him and your family since I heard the news of his death.  I know he  leaves a huge empty spot in your lives.  Just know that that spot will be filled by warm and happy memories as time goes on.  My prayers and thoughts are with you.
