Mr. Roy Virden Potter, age 85, of Daysville Road, Rockwood, TN, passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 in the Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, TN. Mr. Potter was born September 6, 1924 in the Daysville community of Rockwood, TN to Lewis and Susie Barnes Potter. He was a member of the American Legion Post #50 and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Potter was a retired coal truck driver; a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII serving with the 82nd Airborne and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. He was part of the Normandy D-Day Invasion. He was involved in many community activities and was a loving father, husband and grandfather. Preceded in death by his parents; great grandson, Seth Lee Long; brothers, Jerry Dillard Potter, Ary Vaden Potter, Kenneth Coy Potter & Elmer Potter; sister, Ethel McNally; Niece, Patty Jean Trumble.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 23, 2009 from 6-8pm (EDT) at Evans Mortuary. Funeral service will follow at 8pm (EDT) in the chapel with Rev. Hascue Carter & Bro. Ernest Abston officiating. Graveside service will be held Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 1:00pm (EDT) in the Millstone Cemetery in Cumberland County with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.
