Mr. John Gordon Rodgers, age 89, of E. Evans Street, Rockwood, TN, passed away Monday, April 7, 2008 in the Harriman Care & Rehab Center. He was born June 3, 1918 in Rockwood, TN to Henry and Rosa Rodgers. He married Sallie Galyon on July 19, 1940. Mr. Rodgers was a member of Clymersville Baptist Church in Rockwood and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 550th Engineer Light Pontoon Company. Mr. Rodgers was a retired boiler operator and had lived and worked in Bryan, Ohio from 1958 to 1978. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Patsy Barras; two infant sons; a granddaughter; two great grandchildren; sister, Maxine Ciccerella; and brothers, Tommy, Charles, Darwin, and Walter.

Survivors include:

Two Daughters:         Midge Stiltner & husband, Ernie of Bryan, OH
                                      Vicki Peterson of Edon, OH

Six Grandchildren

Eight Great Grandchildren

Brothers:                      Floyd Rodgers
                                      Randall Rodgers
                                      Morgan Rodgers
                                      Willard Rodgers
                                      Edwin Rodgers

And several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.

 

Graveside services and interment will be Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Charles Kelley officiating. Full military honors will be given by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center; 240 Hannah Road; Harriman, TN 37748.

My heart felt sympathy to you all. I only wish I had been able to see Uncle Gordon before he died but it was not to be.
