Mr. Jack Ellis Giles, age 72, of Rockwood, a loving father & husband, passed away peacefully at his home comforted by his family on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. He was born March 30, , 1936 in Rockwood, TN. Jack was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Rockwood; and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4782, the American Legion Post # 50, both of Rockwood; and the Elks Lodge #2501 of Ocean Springs, MS.

Through his life long journey, he ventured out on many trails. He became an Eagle Scout in 1950 and graduated from Rockwood High School, Class of 1954. He worked in the Virginia Tidewater area in the Mass Transit System; was a Transportation manager for the “Red Ball Express” program at the Chattanooga TNT Plant; and was a Radar Technician and Quality Assurance Inspector in the ship repair business. He also served his country honorable for 32 years in the United States Military, wearing many uniforms such as the Tennessee Army National Guard of Rockwood, the United States Air Force, the United States Navy Seabees of Chattanooga, and finally retiring as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserve. He then continued to serve in the Civil Service community as a Supply Chain Manager, retiring in 1996. After a hiatus of 30 plus years in Ocean Springs, MS, Jack moved his family back to his roots in Rockwood where he reacquainted himself with old friends. A family man to the core, his number one focus in life was to teach family values, instill good qualities, and kindness to all. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. His kindness and generosity became his legacy. “Dad” is loved and will be dearly missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by parents, Hugh & Mildred Giles of Rockwood, and brother, Maurice Giles of Hampton, VA.

Son:                                         Brian T. Giles & wife, Viki of Suffolk, VA
Daughter:                               Sumer Reid & husband, Rod of Ocean Springs, MS

8 Grandchildren:                   Christy Malone & husband, Daniel; Billy Defoor & wife, Johnna; Brandy Griffith & husband, Matt; Josh Corzine; Zach Corzine & wife, Ashlee; Heather Cooper & husband, Tony; Whitney Giles; and Blake Reid.

And several nieces and nephews, making up the remaining family.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the care givers and staff at Roane Medical Center, to Hospice, and to the heart warming support of family and friends near and far.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, April 4, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary with Rev. Kara Kleinschmidt officiating.  Interment will be Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11:00 am in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Evans Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ Organ Fund; 328 W. Rockwood St.; Rockwood, TN 37854.
