The last time I saw Aunt Maude was at Chamberlin. I'm sorry I couldn't be up there for the wake. Maude and my mother (Ann Kendrick Zumstein - her sister-in-law) were born the same year. I have such good memories of her at school and church. You couldn't think of The First Christian Church without thinking of Maude. She was a wonderfull on the organ and piano. Rest in peace Aunt Maude. Love you, Linda Beth Linda Zumstein Devine (Moss Point, MS)
Miss Maude, I remember the goods times we all had being in her youth choir. She kept it fun for us. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. God bless you as he welcomes you home. Judy (Ogle) Cox
"Miss Maude" as we affectionately called her had such a sweet personality. I remember being driven on Tuesdays after school to her home on Gateway for piano lessons. I still have some of the books she used in my piano bench. What a wonderful musician she was as well as wonderful person! She touch so many lives!

"Miss" Maude was my beloved piano and organ teacher for 12 years.and I dearly loved her. My prayers are with her family Judy Brogdon True (Kennesaw)
How I loved Miss Maude. Our family was going through a very rough patch when I was a second grader. It was depression time. We had no piano. Miss Maude let me take piano lessons without a piano. She taught me to visualize the notes. I will never forget her. She was so lovely. My favorite photo is of her recital at the First Christian Church. If you don' t have it, I can e mail it to you. Jo An Howard Gaines (Honolulu, HI)
I went to "Miss Maude" for piano lessons from 5th grade to the end of high school. As others have noted.........she had the patience of Job and was always nice to us, even when we had not practiced! Although never GOOD, I did enjoy my piano. My ties to this family were special! First perm from Emily! Blanch for a teacher 3 years at Pond Grove! Piano from Maude. Cherish your memories as others do. Barbara Hicks Loyless (Crossville, TN)
“Miss” Maude was my piano teacher from age 6 until I graduated from high school. Whether I met her in the Junior High School Building or at her house for a lesson, it was always a special time. Often, we would be half through our lesson and realize we had been chatting and visiting instead of practicing, so we’d get back on track and finish out the lesson. I was always busy with extracurricular activities, so many times I would not practice as I should have – but never, did Miss Maude appear angry or disappointed in me. She was a marvelous encourager and a special friend. I have thought of her many times throughout the years, many of those times when I would sit down and play a hymn or a classical piece that I learned to appreciate because of her. “Miss” Maude was a gracious, kind, great lady and an inspiration to all who knew her. Now she has joined our Heavenly Father where she will use her special talents making beautiful music in Heaven. Nancy Young Wright (Knoxville, TN)
I can still hear the hymns she played so reverently all the years I was growing up in the First Christian Church. She led our youth choir with much understanding since she had no children of her own. I, too, had lessons from her for a few years and maybe she taught me how to read notes but I never played in a recital. A truly wonderful person. Margaret Weatherford Hartman (Southern Shores, NC)
My entire life she was the sweet "Miss Maude". My last time with her was when she and Mother [Elsie Burkett] were in assisted living together in Rockwood in the old Chamberlain Memorial. I took her to Christmas Eve services and we all had a wonderful time. Mary Ellen Burkett Varnell (Las Cruces, NM)
Miss Maude, a all of her piano students called her had the unfortunate task of trying to make a pianist of me! For three years the poor lady suffered listening to me trying to bang it out of the piano. I will aways remember her fondly, and had not thought of her in years. She was a great lady and had the patience of Jobe. She will surely be missed by all who knew her. Pat (Hughes) Kerschieter (Knoxville, TN)
