Mrs. Peggy Anne Kelly Scandlyn, 89, of Scandlyn Drive, Rockwood, passed away July 28, 2010 at her residence. She was born December 16, 1920 at Willowgrove, Harriman, TN to James Nelson, Sr. and Dixie Durham Kelly. Mrs. Scandlyn was a graduate of Harriman High School and Strayer College in Washington, D.C. where she worked for the duration of World War II as a secretary in the State Department. After the war she returned home and was married to her husband, Hershel, of 62 years. She had many hobbies including reading, playing cards, cooking, gardening, traveling, golf, making pottery and writing. Peggy was an avid computer user, and enjoyed e-mailing her friends. At the age of 88, she published her own website showcasing her interests. Please visit at www.web.me.com/willopeg1. She was an active member of First Christian Church of Rockwood for over fifty years where she was a Sunday School teacher and co-sponsor, along with her husband, of the Chi Rho and CYF junior and high school youth groups for several years, as well as director of the toddler’s nursery. She had many flower gardens out of which flower arrangements were made for the church almost year round. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel B. Scandlyn; parents, James Nelson Kelly, Sr. and Dixie Durham Kelly; brothers, Rev. James Nelson Kelly, Jr. and wife, Helen of Naples, Florida, Woodrow Wilson Kelly and wife, Thelma of Clinton TN and Stanley Durham Kelly and wife, Clella of Harriman, TN.

Grandchildren Charlene Artale Dreher and husband, Michael of Long Island, N.Y.
Patrick Turner Powers and wife, Christie of Knoxville, TN
Margaret Elaine Bouldin of Nashville, TN
Great Grandchildren Katherine Anne Dreher, John Michael and Daniel Michael Dreher, identical twins, and Megan Beverly Dreher all of New York
Carson Elliot Powers and Zachary Aaron Powers of Knoxville, TN
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 4-6 pm at the First Christian
Church, Rockwood. The service will follow with Rev. Kara Foster officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disciples of Christ First Christian Church, 328 Rockwood Avenue, Rockwood, TN 37854.
